While it's a challenge to make "real" baguettes at home, this version is probably as close to an artisan bakery version as you're going to find.

Crusty and beautifully colored on the outside, buttery soft and chewy on the inside, with a tiny bit of butter - it's one of my favorite breakfast foods.

Preheat the oven to F/ C. Place a rectangular cake pan or another type of high-sided pan on the bottom rack to heat (avoid using glass). If you have a bread stone, place it on the top rack. Heat 2 cups of water in a kettle. slash the top of the baguettes with a lame, razor blade, or even a serrated bread knife.
